  • Torah Study with Rabbi Haim Beliak Sundays: May 28th (Memorial Weekend) - June 11th at 10:00AM | Our study will focus on the Joseph Narratives of Genesis 37 to 50. We will explore the narratives about Joseph and "Joseph figures" primarily within Jewish tradition (Josephus' history; Chassidic masters; views of sexuality - Tamar and Judah, Joseph and Potiphar; the rediscovery of narrative in the Bible; exploitation and revenge in families/nations; and visions of the messiah - son of Joseph) as well as its role in the construction of the Jesus narratives (betrayal, the trial, and last supper) as well as the Koran. Let's celebrate Leonia Kurgan's memoir "A Crowd of One" Leonia Kurgan completed and published her memoir, A Crowd of One, about her life in Poland fleeing the Nazis, growing up in South Africa and now living in Los Angeles. Gala Musical Celebration of Jewish Renewal in Poland Cantor David Wisnia, the 90-year-old Warsaw native and survivor of the Nazi horrors will be joined by his grandson Avi Wisnia, an award-winning composer, singer, and performer. The program will also include contributions from two musical representatives of the Jewish renewal taking place today in Poland, Cantorial Solists Rivka Iza Foremniak and Menachem Piotr Mirski from the Progressive Jewish community, Beit Polska.   • Saturday October 22, 2016 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Jewish Culture Through Music & Memories This celebration showcases 90-year-old survivor of Auschwitz concentration camp, Cantor David S. Wisnia. Wisnia‚Äôs grandson, singersongwriter and pianist Avi Wisnia, joins his grandfather onstage. The program features two visiting cantorial soloists, Rivka Iza Foremniak and Menachem Piotr Mirski from the renewed Progressive Jewish community, Beit Polska in Poland. Cantor Mike Stein, of Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, is internationally celebrated for his musical talent and energy. Rabbi Haim Beliak will talk about his recent visit to Poland. A number of interesting developments in the community's life include the enrollment of the largest Introduction to Judaism class in 22 years. Rabbi Beliak interviewed all 25 members of the class. This is the second year that the class is being taught entirely in Polish. The successful premiere of the film "Bogdan's Journey". The upcoming publication of Louise Steinman's "The Crooked Mirror: A Memoir of Polish - Jewish Reconciliation". Plans include the publication of several doctoral dissertations, concerts with two of Beit Polska's twelve prayer leaders and many more.
